It Waits (2005)
Is it weird to say that I missed watching bad movies? Probably, but back when I could safely have people over at my place (what seems like a hundred years ago), bad movies were the staple of Movie Night. We’d sit around and riff on them, finding enjoyment more through our own senses of humor than whatever lame thing was on the screen. But I watched this alone, with only my growing disappointment as company. I swear we watched It Waits a decade ago–literally this time–but all I could remember was hating a parrot? Turns out that’s all that’s memorable…

When They Cry, Season 1 – Episodes 9 – 13
We’re back after a short break with more episodes of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, AKA When They Cry. Last time was the Cotton Drifting arc, focusing on Mion and her surprise twin sister, Shion. Turns out Mion is the heir to the local yakuza and is in one way or another responsible for every death and disappearance associated with Oyashiro-sama’s curse. Oh, and she has a demon inside of her, which might be different from the reason the she and Rena were acting creepy during Spirited Away by the Demon. These next five episodes–the Curse Killing arc–focus on Satoko,…

When They Cry, Season 1 – Episodes 5 – 8
When we last left Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, AKA When They Cry, three of the five main characters were dead. Keiichi murdered Rena and Mion in self-defense, but the drug they injected him with made him rip out his own throat, eventually dying from blood loss. So… what now? Do we continue the story with the survivors, Rika and Satoko? Does detective Oishi take a main role in investigating the strange and possibly supernatural happenings at Hinamizawa? Nope! We’re going to pretend the first arc never happened! Let’s get weird and homicidal (again) as we look at the second…

When They Cry, Season 1 – Episodes 1 – 4
Let’s try something a little different. Disney+’s release schedule for new shows is pretty tight, with episodes releasing weekly followed by a making-of documentary and kicking off with a new series the week after. For the time being I’m going to skip the Star Wars shows, but that still means that the majority of these Saturday posts will be tied up with the MCU, not leaving much time for anything else. Well, I’m instituting a new policy for the blog: when I’m in the middle of reviewing the latest MCU show on Saturdays, a completely different show’s posts will go…

Queen: The Awakening (2020)
The letter Q vexes me. Not only is it associated with one of the most batshit political conspiracies AND is a nightmare in Scrabble–seriously, how hard would it be replace the tile with “Qu” and save everyone the hassle–but in the entire first year of this blog I never got around to reviewing a movie that started with Q. But I’m here today to solve two of these problems! The first is that “QI” is a recognized word in the official Scrabble dictionary with the definition, “The vital force that in Chinese thought is inherent in all things,” in case…

WandaVision – Season 1, Episode 7
Some of the big questions that people have asked about WandaVision have been, who is the villain? Is there actually a villain? Has Wanda gone completely off the deep end and is a threat to reality? Is Hayward–and therefore SWORD–up to something? Is Agnes up to something? Well, at least one of these questions gets answered this episode!

Feast III: The Happy Finish (2009)
All good things must come to an end, and this is especially true of so-so things. Feast was a fun romp, Feast II: Sloppy Seconds overstayed its welcome, and now we have Feast III: The Happy Finish. Is that a sex thing? I immediately think “happy ending,” but that would indicate that someone makes it out of this franchise unscathed. Urban Dictionary says it’s a handjob thing, so I’m going with that interpretation. And with that lovely mental image, let’s finish this.

Feast II: Sloppy Seconds (2008)
A good sequel ups the stakes of the original. If it has the same threat and energy level, then it’s more of the same and begs the question, what’s the point? Feast II: Sloppy Seconds takes the chaotic energy of Feast and absolutely raises it through more monsters, more bloodshed, and more dark comedy of questionable taste. This one has a bit more of a focus on story and characters than the previous one–although just barely–so a kill count would miss some… subtlety. Back to the regular review format, I guess!

Feast (2005)
Do you ever watch a movie and immediately forget the characters’ names? Like, the Friday the 13th reboot was about… uh… Mr. Jared Padalecki looking for… someone, and uh… okay, I remember one of the stoners was named “Chewie,” but that’s it. Gun to my head I couldn’t tell you any of the others’ names. Well it’s not just me, because that issue is addressed by Feast and its sequels! We have characters with descriptive names that tell you everything you need to know, like Bartender, Beer Guy (Judah Friedlander), Honey Pie, and… Jason Mewes (Jason Mewes)? You get the…

WandaVision – Season 1, Episode 6
Things are escalating quickly in WandaVision, although there are still some major questions left unanswered. That’s about all I can think of saying before getting to spoilers, so let’s dive right in!
