One of the problems the Marvel Cinematic Universe has is the music. Like a lot of modern blockbusters, the soundtrack is samey and easily forgettable. Sure, you could probably identify the Avengers theme, but could you identify Doctor Strange’s main theme? Did that movie actually have one? It did, and it sounds like a more action-orientated piece from a Harry Potter movie, but the point still stands. Ant-Man (2015)
The Marvel Cinematic Universe really tries to cover as many genres as it can, all while still sticking with a superhero aesthetic. For example, Captain America: The First Avenger is a war drama, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a political thriller, and Guardians of the Galaxy is a space comedy. So really, it’s not that big a surprise that Ant-Man would be a heist movie. And despite some behind the scenes shakeups, this is a comedy that has that that Mr. Edgar Wright humor all over it.

WandaVision – Season 1, Episode 9
It’s the penultimate episode of the series and we spent most of it through flashbacks. Not saying that’s a bad thing–we definitely learned a lot–but really it just feels like it’s teasing us, giving a few answers but raising even more questions in anticipation of the finale. So let’s talk about all that we’ve learned!

Thor (2011)
I gotta say, I absolutely love that MCU March lined up in such a perfect way that not only do the number of weekdays match the number of movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also that the Thor post is going up on Thursday. WandaVision – Season 1, Episode 8

Hulk (2003)
February is almost over, so now would be a good time to announce that March is going to be another event month! Every weekday I will be talking about a different movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it’s MCU March! I’m kicking off this endeavor with a little prologue: 2003’s Hulk movie, which is not actually a part of the MCU as it was produced by Universal Studios before Iron Man started the franchise rolling, and 2008’s The Incredible Hulk is a reboot for the character. But it’s an infamous Marvel movie I hadn’t seen, so let’s fix that!

Wolfwalkers (2020)
As soon as I heard about Wolfwalkers I got excited. Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon had previously made The Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea, parts 1 and 2 in an “Irish Folklore Trilogy” with Wolfwalkers being the final part. The previous two movies absolutely knocked it out of the park with their engaging story and unique animation style, both earning Academy Award nominations (The Secret of Kells lost to Up and Song of the Sea lost to Big Hero 6). Some of the big questions that people have asked about WandaVision have been, who is the villain? Is there actually a villain? Has Wanda gone completely off the deep end and is a threat to reality? Is Hayward–and therefore SWORD–up to something? Is Agnes up to something? Well, at least one of these questions gets answered this episode!

Suburban Gothic (2014)
As promised in the Excision post, today we’re talking about Suburban Gothic. Outside of Excision I have not actually seen anything featuring Mr. Matthew Gray Gubler. I didn’t get into Criminal Minds and the Alvin and the Chipmunks quadrilogy is reserved for a week when I just want to suffer. But I knew of him through memes, so I was excited to watch this.
