The first four chapters in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, AKA When They Cry, are referred to as “question arcs.” I think it’s a great name because I have a whole bunch of questions as to what the fuck is going on. When we last left Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, AKA When They Cry, it was one of the more depressing things I’ve ever seen. Well, at least in anime form (but to be fair I haven’t seen Grave of the Fireflies). Satoko’s personal life is just a never-ending parade of misery, which makes her so far not dying at the end of these arcs (unless everyone in the town dies) sort of a mixed blessing. We’re back after a short break with more episodes of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, AKA When They Cry. Last time was the Cotton Drifting arc, focusing on Mion and her surprise twin sister, Shion. When we last left Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, AKA When They Cry, three of the five main characters were dead. Keiichi murdered Rena and Mion in self-defense, but the drug they injected him with made him rip out his own throat, eventually dying from blood loss. So… what now? WandaVision – Season 1, Episode 9
It’s the penultimate episode of the series and we spent most of it through flashbacks. Not saying that’s a bad thing–we definitely learned a lot–but really it just feels like it’s teasing us, giving a few answers but raising even more questions in anticipation of the finale. Is there a recognized subgenre of movies called something like “The Room, but X” or am I breaking new ground? Either way, it’s been too hetero during this month of some of the worst movies ever made, so let’s watch The Room, but gay! Yes, even gay directors can make movies that are so bad and boring that I long for the sweet release of death while suffering through them. Equality!
