Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
MCU March is still going strong! With Avengers: Age of Ultron we’re just about at the halfway point of the franchise (thus far) and the end of Phase 2. I say “just about” because the actual mid-point (thus far) AND the actual end of Phase 2 both happen to be Ant-Man, but we’ll get to that tomorrow. Today we watch Tony Stark continue to make the worst decisions possible!

Thor: The Dark World (2013)
Let’s start this entry of MCU March with a question: do you remember who the villain of this movie is? Ten points if you remembered Malekith. But do you remember what his plan was, or why it had to happen at the specific time that it did? Thor: The Dark World is generally considered to be the weakest of all the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a lot of its details are forgotten. But with hindsight, this movie has some very important moments that set up everything that happens afterwards. What do I mean? Well, read on and…

The Avengers (2012)
Everything has been leading to this. Six main characters introduced over 5 movies, all threads leading to the creation of the Avengers. But it’s not as simple as them just deciding working together is a great idea. What do you think this is, 1963? So let’s talk about the last film in Marvel’s Phase One as MCU March continues!

Thor (2011)
I gotta say, I absolutely love that MCU March lined up in such a perfect way that not only do the number of weekdays match the number of movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also that the Thor post is going up on Thursday. Thor’s Day? Get it?! Ah, we have fun here at Chwineka Watches… Anyway, let’s talk about my favorite film of Marvel’s Phase One.

The Mummy (2017)
By my counting, Mummy Mondays should’ve ended on June 1st. This is assuming that coronavirus didn’t upend just about everything, Movie Night was still meeting regularly, and that we wouldn’t’ve missed a week. But coronavirus did happen and it took me months before I decided to finish up this series by myself. It’s been a weird trip full of bad sequels and rare good moments, but with Mr. Tom Cruise’s 2017 The Mummy, we can finally put this monster back in its tomb.

The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior (2008)
We’ve reached the point of Mummy Mondays where we’re talking about a sequel AND a prequel to a spin-off to what is effectively a reboot. Cue the Inception noise. This movie is… certainly something I spent almost 2 hours watching.

The Pyramid (2014)
Mummy Mondays are still on hold due to social distancing (we should be back on track next week), so this week I’m talking about The Pyramid, a movie that doesn’t actually have a mummy for the villain. I imagine The Scorpion King franchise is the same way, so it was going to happen at some point. Instead our villain is… Anubus. Like, the actual Egyptian, jackal-headed god of death. Well, that could be cool… TOO BAD IT IS NOT!
