The Field Guide to Evil (2018)
I think this is the first anthology I’ve reviewed on the blog? The only other time I’ve used that tag was with The Star Wars Holiday Special, and that was mostly a “for lack of a better word” situation. The Field Guide to Evil is a horror anthology that focuses on multicultural folklore, broadening our horizons by showcasing creatures and demons from around the world. But unfortunately for this film, not every story is told as well as the others. There were some shorts I loved, and others that just left me feeling meh.

Arrow – Season 1, Episode 1
We’re finally doing the interconnected superhero shows on the CW channel known as the Arrowverse! This is the start of a very, very large undertaking, so I won’t be doing everything in a marathon format. Like with previous series, I’m going to take breaks because holy crap there’s a lot to this. As of writing, the Arrowverse consists of 34 seasons across 7 different series (sort of 9), and also two web series (each with two seasons). Holy shit. And they all start crossing over with each other later on? I’ll figure out the best way to do that when…

Mortal Kombat (2021)
I must’ve played a Mortal Kombat game at some point, right? I know I’ve played Street Fight and I was of course at least somewhat aware of the ongoing Mortal Kombat story/franchise, but I couldn’t really tell you much. Scorpion and Sub-Zero wear the same outfits, Kano pees too much, and Mr. James Remar was Lord Raiden in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. I don’t have anything against the franchise, but I just absolutely suck at fighting games. My husband–a professional gamer compared to me–is a fan, so he was more excited to watch the new Mortal Kombat than I was, but…

Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
I guess I’m a Godzilla fan? But what classifies someone as a “fan” of something, really? Sure, I’ve seen all the live action Godzilla movies, but I’ve seen all the Children of the Corn movies and I’m certainly not a fan of that franchise (no one is). The only Godzilla merch I own is a card game that has been collecting dust ever since I picked it up. I own a Gamera DVD collection with 9 or so movies, so am I a Gamera fan? No, but you get the idea. I guess for me, calling myself a fan means…

When They Cry – Season 1, Episodes 22 – 26
Here we finally are, the last arc in the first season of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, AKA When They Cry. Or is it series, since the next series/season has a different subtitle, title song, and end credits song? I’m honestly not sure, just like I’m honestly not sure what’s really going on in this series. But not necessarily in a bad way? That’s the intent, what with it being a mystery series and all, but damn, it would be nice to get some actual answers. Good thing this is a so-called answer arc! So let’s jump into Atonement and…

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier – Season 1, Episode 6
With only 6 episodes, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier feels much shorter compared to WandaVision, even though the actual difference in their combined length is about an hour. But man, we went through an emotional roller coaster throughout the series, especially in the season finale. Will there be a season two? Let’s dive into the final episode, “One World, One People,” and talk about that!

Beginners (2010)
It’s that time again! The list of movies I’ve mentioned–but haven’t reviewed on the blog–is getting larger and larger, and I feel this equally large sense of shame at not chipping away at it. So let’s roll the digital equivalent of a 312-sided die and see what we get! And today’s movie is… nope, I said no more superhero movies this month, so let’s reroll. Trying again… we get Beginners? A vaguely queer, indie romantic “comedy” starring Mr. Christopher Plummer and Ewan McGregor? How the fuck did that get on the list again? Ah, right, I watched The Conspiracy of…

When They Cry, Season 1 – Episodes 16 – 21
The first four chapters in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, AKA When They Cry, are referred to as “question arcs.” I think it’s a great name because I have a whole bunch of questions as to what the fuck is going on. But now we’ve entered the so-called “answers arcs.” I went into the Eye Opening arc completely unprepared for what I was about to see and learn, thinking it was going to follow the pattern I had assumed was there based on the question arcs. Is every question answered? Absolutely not, but I learned enough new things that I…

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier – Season 1, Episode 5
This week’s episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is a bit more laid back than the rest of the series with some frank discussions about America’s institutionalized racism, so I could see how some people would not like it. They’re wrong, but still. We get a lot of character development as well as a new character who has a… complicated history in the comics. So let’s get straight to it and talk about the fifth episode, “Truth.”
