Rogue One (2016)
Okay, I’m feeling refreshed and ready to get back to Star Wars content. Certainly doesn’t hurt that Rogue One–sometimes known as Rogue One; A Star Wars Story which is where the name of 2024: A Star Wars Event came from–is pretty good! It’s the Captain America: The Winter Soldier of the franchise in that it’s more of a spy thriller than the rest of the movies. I summarize it as a very 21st century movie, but lemme actually do the summary before I explain why.

Metropolis (1927)
One of my goals during 2024: A Star Wars Event is to talk about movies that inspired George Lucas to create the franchise. You can easily look up lists of influential films, but how many people nowadays have actually seen The Dam Busters or Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe? I was originally going to talk about Seven Samurai today but decided to dedicate a whole week to Mr. Akira Kurosawa films later on, so what else to cover? I wasn’t in the mood for WWII dog fights or Nazi propaganda so that left… oh, hey! Frit Lang’s Metropolis! It’s been…

Glass Onion (2022)
I need to take a break from Star Wars media for a minute after rewatching Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. I think a lot of people did. But when I started 2024: A Star Wars Event I said I’d sometimes do Star Wars-adjacent things, and when you really think about it, that’s a really vague term, right? So I’m kicking off this week with Glass Onion, the sequel to Knives Out, written and directed by Mr. Rian Johnson. Say, didn’t he also write and direct Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi? Adjacent!

Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi (2017)
Have I really not seen this movie since it was in theaters? I feel like I may have watched The Last Jedi again since it came out seven years ago, but I’m not sure. Anyway, back in the Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back post I said that film was either my favorite or second favorite depending on my mood. The other option was The Last Jedi, and after having rewatched it for this blog, I think Empire is my favorite and this is a close second. It’s really good, but not perfect.

Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005)
Welcome back to 2024: A Star Wars Event. Hey, remember at the beginning of the month when I mentioned that I was eventually going to do some synergy crossposting over on my comic blog, Chwineka Reads? Well, that time has arrived! You can check out the first post about Star Wars #1 (1977) now and expect more to come. I absolutely am going to get sick of Star Wars well before this event is done… And with that positivity, let’s get Revenge of the Sith over with.

Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002)
So we’ve got this Palpatine guy, right? Upstanding Senator and now Chancellor of the Galactic Republic, but you and I both know he’s also secretly Darth Sidious, dark lord of the Sith and the true enemy of the prequel Star Wars movies. And the original trilogy. And apparently the sequel trilogy, too. But like… what is his plan? I get that he’s consolidating political power and will soon take over the galaxy, but all his Sith shenanigans have me scratching my head. Let’s examine that after I summarize Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones.

Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999)
Enough stalling, let’s get on to the prequels. While I did find the various documentaries made by Mr. Robert Guenette to be informative, I didn’t initially plan on covering them so early in 2024: A Star Wars Event. But I give you my word that I won’t be interrupting the prequel Star Wars films with whatever documentaries I can find. So let’s begin with Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, I movie that was better than I remember it being! Except for, you know… him.

Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977)
It’s time, mother fuckers! I don’t know why I said that, I’m sure you’re all lovely people. But back to the point, not only am I finally getting around to Star Wars–only took 4 years–but I’m going into the franchise to a truly insane level. Welcome to 2024: A Star Wars Event! My goal is to cover as many of the movies and shows in this expansive franchise as I can over the coming year. I’m counting the main movies! The Disney+ shows! The Droids and Ewoks cartoons from the 80’s! That one kid’s show my friends’ toddler loves that…

Diary of the Dead (2007)
This movie is a bit nostalgic to me. Back near the beginning of Movie Night, we had a friend who supplied us with a plethora of cheap horror DVDs. Shout out to Tim, who I’m not even sure knows this blog exists… Anyway, Diary of the Dead was one of those movies we watched something like over a decade ago, so I only remembered a few details. Forgotten was that this was directly created by Mr. George A Romero, which makes the fact that it’s bad found footage all the more sad. Welcome back to October of the Living Dead.

Land of the Dead (2005)
I have a specific type of brain rot where I associate some actors with specific roles and just see them as that character no matter what they’re in. Mr. Joel McHale will always be lovable loser Jeff Winger, no matter how serious his role in Becky tries to be. In this particular case, Land of the Dead features Luigi Mario and King Koopa. They even have a climactic fight amidst a zombie revolution! And the whole movie was just okay.
