Loki – Season 1, Episode 4
We’re now halfway through Loki, and the previous episodes have left us with several answers but even more questions. The fourth episode, “The Nexus Event,” is no exception to this, raising the stakes and introducing some characters I’ve been waiting for. So let’s not waste any more time!

National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007)
It’s that time of year once again, dear readers! As my state begs people not to shoot off fireworks so soon after a record-breaking heatwave and at the start of what could be one of the worst fire seasons yet, it’s time to celebrate the Fourth of July! Last year I marked the occasion by watching National Treasure, so it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that this year I’m looking at National Treasure: Book of Secrets. So without further ado, LET’S KIDNAP THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!

Free Fall (2013)
Who has two thumbs and survived the worst heatwave to hit the Pacific Northwest in recorded history? This guy! Anyway, Pride Month is almost over and there was one last thing I wanted to do in honor of it: watch Freier Fall, AKA Free Fall. It’s a German film from 2013 about two men who fall in love, but society is against them. Sound familiar and a little… overplayed? Sure does to me!

Last Ferry (2019)
I’m starting this post with an aside. I live in in the Pacific Northwest in part due to its moderate weather. Well, it’s supposed to be 100° the day I’m writing this, and we’re on track for 110° on Monday, the day this goes live. So, uh, if I suddenly stop posting, it’s because I died of heat stroke.

Arrow – Season 1, Episodes 15-17
We’re back with more Arrow episodes! Last time we got to meet Slade Wilson, AKA Deathstroke, someone who is destined to become one of Oliver’s best friends, but also one of his worst enemies. Not to be outdone, this batch of episodes introduces Green Arrow’s long time sidekick, Speedy/Arsenal/Red Arrow, someone who will almost appear in every season of the show. It’s a big deal for me because he’s one of my favorite underrated characters, and while he’s straight, his actor is gay. Happy Pride Month!

Loki – Season 1, Episode 3
A question I keep thinking about while watching episodes of Loki is, how much of what we see and hear can we trust? Loki is the God of Mischief and Lies, a trickster at heart. Throw in the mysterious Variant–we’ll get to her, don’t worry–and I just start assuming every other thing they say is at best a half-truth. Can either be trusted? Absolutely not, but I’m going to do my best to figure out what’s true and what’s not. One thing is certain, though: this is a very purple episode.

The Matrix Revolutions (2003)
I would like to start this post with a bit of a public service announcement: The Matrix Revolutions is the third film in The Matrix trilogy. I know this may be pretty obvious to some, but I hadn’t watched these films in nearly two decades, and since Revolutions and The Matrix Reloaded both came out in 2003–albeit 6 months apart–I was confused as to which one came first. So if you’re finding this post and haven’t read the one on Reloaded, there’s nothing I can do to force you to go back, but I do build off stuff I talked…

The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
I honestly considered not reviewing The Matrix sequels during Pride Month. The original film is now widely accepted as a trans allegory–no doubt helped by the creators, Lana and Lilly Wachowski, coming out as trans women in the years since. But my goal was to at least try to watch them with a queer eye, so Pride Month is as good a time as any. Did I find overt queerness in The Matrix Reloaded? Well… not really. Drat.

The Matrix (1999)
As I said in the Strapped post, one of my goals for Pride Month was to review The Matrix trilogy. Sure, it’s about a white cisgender guy who falls in love with a white cisgender girl, but the creators are trans women! Well, they are now; Mrs. Lana and Lily Wachowski didn’t write and direct The Matrix under those names, but we try not to deadname here, especially during Pride Month. So get ready for a week of trans philosophy! Or really one day of trans philosophy and two of “I think the overall message got a bit muddied as…

Arrow – Season 1, Episodes 13-14
You would think that with a goal of “get through all the Arrowverse series before the heat death of the universe” that I wouldn’t skip weeks, or have posts that only cover two episodes. I even have a spreadsheet of how I imagined I would bundle the episodes, and today’s post was supposed to include one more. But life happens–Sunday posts are not guaranteed to help with sanity, and sometimes I just have enough to say about two episodes that trying to cram a third one would add too much bloat. Certainly doesn’t hurt that episode 13 has Oliver Queen…
