Loki – Season 1, Episode 3
A question I keep thinking about while watching episodes of Loki is, how much of what we see and hear can we trust? Loki is the God of Mischief and Lies, a trickster at heart. Throw in the mysterious Variant–we’ll get to her, don’t worry–and I just start assuming every other thing they say is at best a half-truth. Can either be trusted? Absolutely not, but I’m going to do my best to figure out what’s true and what’s not. One thing is certain, though: this is a very purple episode.

Last time on Loki, the titular God of Mischief–specifically the version ripped straight from The Avengers–was removed from the Sacred Timeline and tasked with the capture of a dangerous time criminal: himself. Haunting Me (2007)
I want you to know that there are times when I go above and beyond for this blog. Netflix has the Oh My Ghost films, a Thailand horror/comedy series starring a group of aging kathoeys–kind of like drag queens, kind of like trans women, kind of a third gender option… Similar to “baklâ” in the Philippines, which I talked about in the ZsaZsa Zaturnnah Ze Moveeh post. Boy Meets Girl (2014)
When covering queer movies during Pride Month, I don’t really have any sort of “diversity checklist.” I pick a queer movie–half of which I’ve seen before–and then I talk about it. But being a gay male, my preference skews towards movies about gay males. Well not this week! I’m kicking off this mini-theme with a film about a trans girl, and get this: she’s actually played by a trans actress! Fucking groundbreaking, I know.

It’s Pride Month, and you know what that means! It’s time for corporations to slap rainbows on their logos and pat themselves on the back so hard that they’ll strain something! And this applies to streaming services, too! Netflix has an LGBTQ section, although it’s there year-round and isn’t being advertised on the main site as of writing. Tubi actually does have their LGBTQIA+ Pride movies on the front page, but after you click the Load More button (and it’s also a year-round thing). Today’s post was supposed to be about literally any other show. Now that I’ve finished the first season of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, AKA When They Cry, the sky was the limit! Do I jump back into superhero shows with the first season of Arrow? Start on something I love like Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated? Or pull out something weird from my DVD collection like Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century? Did everybody have a good Easter? Or if you don’t celebrate, a decent regular Sunday? I spent the day with family members I haven’t seen in a year because of, you know, everything, and then came home to watch a movie adaptation of a musical about a hippie clown Jesus.
