WandaVision – Season 1, Episode 3
Another week means another episode of WandaVision, now in color! That’s not just a joke; that’s also the title, “Now in Color.” The uncomfortable strangeness of the show continues, now with a 1970’s The Brady Bunch aesthetic (and a theme song very reminiscent of The Partridge Family). When last we saw our couple, Wanda was suddenly pregnant. Months away from giving birth, right? Well… not quite.

Black Christmas (1974)
We’re going old school today! While the original Black Christmas was not the first movie involving what we today would refer to as a “slasher” killer (the original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre came out the same year), it helped popularize the horror subgenre. But is this film really about Christmas? Absolutely not. It would’ve been just as easy to set it during spring break. But it happens right before Christmas, so here we are, talking about it in December. Merry technicality!

Children of the Corn: Genesis (2012)
Do you know how bad you have to be to become the worst movie in the Children of the Corn franchise? Yeah yeah, welcome to October of the Corn, I’m mad at this movie. I complained that Children of the Corn: The Gathering felt like an unrelated script that slapped the franchise name on it, but this movie… this fucking movie… Okay, enough vague ranting, let’s dive in.

Children of the Corn 666: Isaac’s Return (1999)
I see what this movie was trying to do with “666” instead of “Part VI,” but… why? 666 is traditionally regarded as the number of The Beast, but that’s from the Book of Revelation (remember, it’s singular, not plural). So it’s very Christian… and while the child cult of He Who Walks Behind the Rows has performative Christian aspects, it’s definitely not the same religion. So having “666” in the title makes no sense!

The Void (2017)
Have you ever seen the music video for “Fantasy” by DyE? If you haven’t, here’s a link. He’s a French electropop artist and the song is pretty good! But the main reason I want you to see it is because it has a twist. A very… Lovecraftian twist. What starts out seemingly normal night suddenly becomes a nightmare involving realities beyond mortal comprehension. And I bring this up because that’s basically the plot of The Void, too.
