Arrow – Season 1, Episodes 7-9
Welcome back to me talking about Arrow, a thing I still haven’t come up with a cute name for yet. This batch of episodes wraps up with episode 9, the midseason break. Is that something I have to explain? Just in case, way back in the Before Times, weekly TV shows often took a break for a month or so around the middle of a season to give the actors and creators a little break. Usually it’d end on a cliffhanger, and this sort of has one!

Army of the Dead (2021)
I want to open this post by saying that this is probably my favorite Zack Snyder movie. I know I said that about Sucker Punch, and I still need to revisit 300 and Watchmen to see how I feel about them, but yeah, this is my new favorite of his. Army of the Dead is a zombie film apparently unrelated to Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead remake, but it’s a fun zombie heist flick to turn your brain off while watching. Unfortunately, my brain is stuck in the “on” position, so there are some things I want to talk about.

Arrow – Season 1, Episodes 5-6
What’s this? More Arrow episodes? I was ahead with stuff for once, so I figured I’d continue watching episodes so that it doesn’t take me fifty years to reach the seasons currently airing. Don’t expect this to be a regular thing–especially with Loki’s premiere right around the corner.

Arrow – Season 1, Episodes 2-4
Welcome back to me talking about Arrow season 1! Last time we talked about the pilot episode where we learned that Oliver Queen was shipwrecked on an island for five years, has recently come back home, and is a superhero vigilante on the downlow. With the pilot out of the way and a couple plot threads for the season already showing, the next couple episodes build up the main characters. But this is a show for the CW network, so there will be action sequences to go with over the top drama. So, pretty much like a comic book.

Arrow – Season 1, Episode 1
We’re finally doing the interconnected superhero shows on the CW channel known as the Arrowverse! This is the start of a very, very large undertaking, so I won’t be doing everything in a marathon format. Like with previous series, I’m going to take breaks because holy crap there’s a lot to this. As of writing, the Arrowverse consists of 34 seasons across 7 different series (sort of 9), and also two web series (each with two seasons). Holy shit. And they all start crossing over with each other later on? I’ll figure out the best way to do that when…

Mortal Kombat (2021)
I must’ve played a Mortal Kombat game at some point, right? I know I’ve played Street Fight and I was of course at least somewhat aware of the ongoing Mortal Kombat story/franchise, but I couldn’t really tell you much. Scorpion and Sub-Zero wear the same outfits, Kano pees too much, and Mr. James Remar was Lord Raiden in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. I don’t have anything against the franchise, but I just absolutely suck at fighting games. My husband–a professional gamer compared to me–is a fan, so he was more excited to watch the new Mortal Kombat than I was, but…

Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
So here we are, a week later. I started this mini event by watching Godzilla vs. Kong and then thinking, “hey, shouldn’t I review the other movies first?” This idea of having to review the preceding films has had a spotty record here, since I reviewed Brahams: The Boy II half a year before getting to The Boy, and I haven’t covered the original Jacob’s Ladder after talking about the awful, awful Jacob’s Ladder remake. So why do it now, when it would push this review even further away from being topical? I dunno, man. I guess I just wanted…

Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
I guess I’m a Godzilla fan? But what classifies someone as a “fan” of something, really? Sure, I’ve seen all the live action Godzilla movies, but I’ve seen all the Children of the Corn movies and I’m certainly not a fan of that franchise (no one is). The only Godzilla merch I own is a card game that has been collecting dust ever since I picked it up. I own a Gamera DVD collection with 9 or so movies, so am I a Gamera fan? No, but you get the idea. I guess for me, calling myself a fan means…

Kong: Skull Island (2017)
Is anybody actually a fan of King Kong? They have to exist, otherwise why would there be… is that right? 10 King Kong movies before this one? I’ll file that fact away for later. Anyway, when I first heard about this movie, I resigned myself to watching it, knowing it would have connections to future Godzilla movies and I’m a sucker for watching every movie in a franchise. So imagine my surprise when I actually enjoyed this!

Godzilla (2014)
I can’t do anything easily, can I? I’m already a month late to reviewing Godzilla vs. Kong, and yet I feel the need to start at the beginning of the so-called MonsterVerse cinematic universe with 2014’s Godzilla, AKA the one I think is the least good. I mean, it’s not the worst Godzilla movie ever–I hate you so much, Gabara and will NEVER forgive you for existing–but of the four films in this new franchise, it’s the weakest, in part because it shows as little of Godzilla as possible.
