Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977)
It’s time to rip the bandage off–Exorcist II: The Heretic is probably the worst movie I’m going to watch as part of Paranormal Octoberty. I mean, Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin sure could surprise me, but this is an infamously bad sequel. And it features Mr. James Earl Jones, who sadly died recently. This flick is the first thing I’ve seen him in since his passing, so this is apparently how I’m honoring his life! What a fucking waste.

The Making of Star Wars (1977)
Oh ho! You expected me to cover Stars Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back immediately after talking about Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, didn’t you? But surprise! In between rewatching the two films I checked out an old documentary on the Star Wars phenomenon, and I thought it was interesting enough to cover. While many documentaries cover their subjects long after the fact, this one stands out for coming out in September of 1977, four months after the film’s debut. Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977)
It’s time, mother fuckers! I don’t know why I said that, I’m sure you’re all lovely people. But back to the point, not only am I finally getting around to Star Wars–only took 4 years–but I’m going into the franchise to a truly insane level. Welcome to 2024: A Star Wars Event! My goal is to cover as many of the movies and shows in this expansive franchise as I can over the coming year. I’m counting the main movies! The Disney+ shows! The Droids and Ewoks cartoons from the 80’s! That one kid’s show my friends’ toddler loves that…

House (1977)
As I said in the Eraserhead post, I watched a double feature of films made in 1977 by first-time directors that were surreal as all hell and part of the Criterion Collection. How very specific, but that applies to Eraserhead just as much as Hausu, AKA House. Director Mr. Nobuhiko Obayashi had previously worked on commercials, and that comes across in how bizarre and at times episodic the film feels.

Eraserhead (1977)
A while back, the Criterion Collection had a sale and I bought a couple DVDs that I’d had my eye on. I’ve already reviewed a few of the movies I picked up, namely The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp and Beau Travail. But I’d been sitting on the rest for a while now, and it’s been a growing annoyance in the back of my skull. So I’m finishing up this week with a light theme! I’m going to be talking about 2 movies I picked up from the Criterion Collection that are surreal experiences from first-time directors released in…
