Dark Star (1974)
Did you know that sci-fi as a genre existed before Star Wars? I’m as shocked as you are. Or I would be if I wasn’t being facetious and also had previously seen Dark Star years ago. It’s a strange little film that’s really only noteworthy because of who made it; it’s certainly not remembered for it’s plot, and maybe only I half-remembered its soundtrack.

Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter (1974)
I feel like I don’t review enough older movies on this here blog. So far this year, I’ve reviewed 6 movies that came out before the year 2000, and four of those were from the 1990’s. Sure, these more recent movies are of a different quality compared to that of older films–both in production value and content–but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some amazing old movies! And Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter is… okay, maybe not one of the greats, but it was a perfectly passable film!

Black Christmas (1974)
We’re going old school today! While the original Black Christmas was not the first movie involving what we today would refer to as a “slasher” killer (the original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre came out the same year), it helped popularize the horror subgenre. But is this film really about Christmas? Absolutely not. It would’ve been just as easy to set it during spring break. But it happens right before Christmas, so here we are, talking about it in December. Merry technicality!
